SERVICE 2211:

Essential Water Chemistry

IACET CEUs offered: 0.8

Duration: 8 hours

Instructors: Eric Knight

The Essentials of Watershape Chemistry

This course takes a comprehensive dive into both sides of water chemistry: water quality and water balance. Students will first learn the nature of water, solubility and saturation. They will then learn about water balance (physics), water quality (safe, clean, and clear), and explore the physical nature of water and why it behaves the way it does. Course content also features ways to deal with the most common water-quality problems, and how to prevent them before they start.

What you will learn:

Define each of the tested chemistry parameters and why they matter.

Define water balance and understand the laws of physics that govern water.

Define water quality in terms of chlorination, disinfection, and oxidation.

Learn how to troubleshoot and prevent the most common pool chemistry issues.

Eric Knight

Eric Knight is a former American Record Holder in swimming, who got sick from breathing airborne chloramines while swimming indoors. He joined the swimming pool industry immediately following the 2012 US Olympic Swimming Trials. Eric worked for Paddock, focusing on the indoor air quality issue for natatoriums.

He moved from Paddock in 2015 to develop a mobile app, where Eric learned the skills that led him to his role in Orenda in 2016, where he began to learn about water chemistry. He developed the Orenda App and the Orenda Calculator®, which quickly became the most widely-used pool calculator in the world. Eric also created and hosted the Rule Your Pool® Podcast, which made him one of the most prolific and trusted pool chemistry instructors in the United States.
